Welcome!

In 2013 my father and I rode our motorcycles from Central Texas to Sturgis, South Dakota to attend the 73rd annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It was on this 10-day trip that our annual states trip was born. The goal was simple – ride all 50 states on a motorcycle together.

After many beer and campfire discussions we came up with a short, simple set of rules. These rules are to be followed as much as possible. The only rule that is not negotiable is rule #1.

Rule #1 – We must travel at least 100 miles through the state. This is preferably done before exiting the state but must be done on the same trip and we must be together (possible exceptions for small states, e.g. Rhode Island).

Rule #2 – Camp as much as possible. Any camping is acceptable so long as it is in a tent or outdoors – no cabins or “glamping”. Hotel/motel rooms are allowed but only every few days to allow for a real shower and good night’s rest.

Rule #3 – Meals should be eaten at a place that cannot be had at home, preferably non-franchise style eateries. A local eatery is ideal. Fast food is highly frowned upon and should only be allowed for lunch and only if circumstances of the day require a very quick stop for food.

That’s it – three basic rules to motor through the United States of America.

The pages contained within this site currently only contain my daily entries from 2018 until now. I hope to add entries for previous years in the near future. Check out the Categories drop menu below for entries from previous trips!
